Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation
Thought Leaders | Evaluation Partners | Workforce Support
Through our research and workforce support activities we are responsive to the arising needs and issues in the national and regional IECMHC ecosystem.
Over the past 15 years, Indigo Cultural Center and Dr. Eva Marie Shivers have emerged as national thought leaders of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) as a result of:

-
Numerous evaluations and research studies;
-
Training and keynotes throughout the country;
-
Organizational technical assistance;
-
Policy consultation; and
-
Advocacy efforts.

Our research and workforce support efforts are interconnected by a strong commitment to social justice.

Indigo Launches National Study:
Current Trends in IECMHC
As sociopolitical pressures, stress, and burnout continue to rise, mental health consultants have shared that they are holding a heightened level of consultees’ personal stress and trauma alongside traditional child- and classroom-and programmatic-focused consultation. This national study seeks to understand how mental health consultants are managing these evolving demands. We hope to identify the kinds of training, reflective supervision, and organizational supports that are needed to sustain mental health consultants. Our goal is to inform how IECMHC systems can better care for the workforce so that mental health consultants have the capacity, preparation, and community they need to thrive.
State, Regional IECMHC
Evaluation & Research
Indigo's Institute for Child Development Research and Social Change Division has worked alongside systems nationally, regionally, and organizationally as thought partners, consultants, and researchers. The below graphic highlights the Institute's IECMHC Evaluation & Research work with cities, counties, and states.

IECMHC Equity Work
Over the past 17 years, we have organically grown into the Healing Justice Movement. What this means is that we approach our racial equity work in IECMH by reimagining wholeness at the intersection of intergenerational trauma, current structures of oppression, and a generative and co-created future.

Our Racial Equity Training and Consultation work includes providing leadership and organizational equity support to many IECMH initiatives and programs around the country. This support has taken the form of facilitating ongoing reflecting learning groups with organizations; 1:1 leadership reflective support; and delivering keynotes, plenaries, and facilitating retreats.
